Volleyball Squeaks out the Win

Jacksonville, ILL. -- Principia traveled to MacMurray and played their best two games of the season as they went up 2-0 on the Highlanders. In game three MacMurray started playing! They were pounding the ball through blocks, causing shank digs as their power made it to the backrow, and the Panthers were knocked off balance and couldn't rebound. MacMurray took game three and four with ease. The momentum was definitely in MacMurray's favor, so God bless the Principia women for committing to each other and stepping out on the court in game five with some boldness to win the match 3-2 with a 15-11 final game.

When I say "squeaked out a win", I mean it. MacMurray outhit Prin .133 to .099, and killed 28% of the balls compared to Prin's 24%. The serving game was just about even with Prin at 10:4 ace to error and MacMurray 9:4. Principia dug 46% of the Highlander swings while Mac dug 43%. Mac tallied 7 blocks to Prin's 6. #3 Kamryn Flesner was the stud of the match putting down 20 kills and hitting an inspiring .340. On the Panther side Sophia Hathaway and Noelle Shoemake kept the Panthers in it with 18 and 15 kills respectively. Mia Gill led the match with 4 aces, and Amanda Roberts came in and served up 2 aces. The Panther back court worked together to adjust to what Mac dished out, and all five dug in double digits.

The Panthers move to 18-4 (14-3 in SLIAC), and host Westminster this Saturday at 1pm for Senior Day!
