Elsah, ILL. -- Principia College Men's Soccer beats Elmhurst College convincingly with four goals.
Principia scored their first goal in the 10
th minute when
Kaleb Keller subbed on and out-hustled the Elmhurst defense on a pass from
Kaden Keller and poked the ball past the goalie on a sliding play. The lead was short lived as Elmhurst scored minutes later. Principia broke the 1-1 half time stalemate with a goal in the 60
th minute by freshman
Seth Arens. Then in the 75
th minute, sophomore transfer
Jack Rogers made a tremendous cross that was pounded in the net by junior
George Agai.
Kaleb Keller scored the final goal with a great individual effort and a howling shot to the upper right corner. Senior David McLeod-Warrick earned the win with clutch saves in both halves including one fingertip save that just pushed the ball out of the net and sent the ball ricocheting off the upper right corner of the goal. McLeod-Warrick also had another acrobatic save on a dangerous Elmhurst free kick from 20 yards out that he pushed to safety and helped maintain Principia's lead. Overall, the win was a great team win with players fulfilling their roles well.
They said it:
"I am proud of our guys. We had a rough start to the season in regards to shorelines, but our guys haven't let up and they have stuck to honing our game plan. It takes a lot of courage and self-belief to not give up when things aren't going your way. We are starting to reap the rewards of hard work, focus and a great team spirit."
