Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Panthers Fall in High Scoring Affair

Greenville, IL—The Principia Panther men's basketball team traveled to Greenville, IL to take on the Greenville Panthers in their latest SLIAC matchup this season. After a hard fought and very high scoring affair, the Panther squad would ultimately come up a little bit short, losing by a score of 139-113.

Greenville runs what is known as the system, a high-paced offensive and defensive attack, so the Panthers knew that they had their work cut out for them today. Right off the bat, Johari Dix made a 3-pointer and then another 3-pointer from Isiah Price pushed the Greenville lead to 6-0 and had the Panthers on their heels. Shortly after, the Panthers would answer with a couple of baskets of their own, and then both offenses were off to the races. Just five minutes into the game, Greenville already lead the Panthers 22-10, but a basket each from two freshman, Clark Davidson and Nathan Brantingham stopped the scoring run for Greenville.

For the next few minutes of the half the Panthers would chip into the Greenville lead, only to see the lead slip back to 10 points multiple times until Clark Davidson made a lay-up off of a beautiful pass from Micah Paulson that brought the Panthers within 4 with four minutes left to play. The last few minutes would belong to Greenville as they would stretch their lead back to 10 and would lead the Panthers 69-59 going into the half.

Coming out of the half, the Panthers came out very slow and quickly watched Greenville extend their lead to 21 points as they capitalized on multiple turnovers from the Panthers. After a quick timeout, the Panthers came out more focused and began to execute their press break, and after a 3-pointer from Micah Paulson, the Panthers had cut the lead to 16 points. Unfortunately, that would be the closest the Panthers would get for the remainder of the game. Greenville shot very well from three, and that coupled with foul trouble for the Panthers proved to be too much for this resilient team. The Panthers would ultimately fall to Greenville by a score of 139-113.

Good To Know

Multiple players had big nights for the Panthers tonight. Senior Micah Paulson recorded a huge 44-point game to lead all scorers, Clark Davidson had another double-double with 18 points and 13 rebounds, and TreVaughn Goodman recorded a triple-double with 24 points, 12 rebounds, and 10 assists!
