Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Homecoming win for women's soccer

Elsah, IL--  Women's soccer played the Iowa Wesleyan Tigers in their homecoming match today. Due to unfortunate circumstances on the Tiger side, it was a 9v9 match-up. There was a lot of field for eight players to cover but the Panthers dominated most of the first half despite low intensity. With 11 shots, the Panthers were only able to convert one to a goal made by Hannah Sipe, who capped her sixth goal of the season today.

With the Panthers leading by one, they came into the second half with a bit more pep in their step. Showing more intensity and composure, they worked the ball around and up the field. A drive from Georgia Rather into the box led to a penalty kick in favor for the Panthers which was finished by Viviane de Castro to make the game 2-0. De Castro would score the third goal after another drive by Rather into the box for the assist. The Panthers would continue their scoring after a long ball from Sipe to Rather who used her speed to bypass the Tiger goalkeeper for goal number four. The fifth and final goal for the Panthers would come from Sophia Hathaway after a pass from Desmar Ngei.

The Tigers had a few attacks to keep our backline on their toes but thanks to the tough backline, Yana Wood, Kiona Sperr, and Tara Adhikari, they were able to manage the threats. The Tigers would score against the Panthers after an initial save by goalkeeper Rachel McLeod-Warrick but the Tigers followed through without Panther defensive support for the rebound goal.

We want to thank all the alumni who came out to support today!

The Panthers play again Tuesday, October 22 against Fontbonne University away at 8pm in St. Louis.
