Elsah, ILL. -- The Principia Volleyball team took the time to celebrate some very special faculty members tonight before their conference match against Fontbonne University. Each of the four seniors got to choose a faculty member that has made an impact on their life and the seniors wrote a special message to them which was read by the announcer before the game.
The Panthers then geared up for the match and came out ready to fight for the win. Despite three very close games, and one win, the Panthers fell to the Griffins 3-1.
A look at the match:
Fontbonne came in looking for an easy sweep after a 3-0 win in early October, but Principia dug their heels in and made them work for it. Tonight the Panthers score 87 points compared to the earlier match 54. They also bettered their kills to 10.75 / set compared to the last match at 7.7, and there was some nice improvement siding out at 48%.
Good to know:
Sarah Ungerleider gets the stud award tonight for being bold, brilliant and effective. Sarah had 13 kills and was the leading hitter from both teams at .333. She was also a part of 4 blocks and picked up 5 digs.
Devon Marunde led the defensive soul with great vision and a relentless pursuit of the ball. That same gritty attitude prevailed as she chased down passes to run the offense with aplomb. Libero
Amanda Roberts picked up a career high 33 digs, and that was the match high for both teams as well.
Next up:
The Panthers travel to Fulton, MO on Saturday to play Westminster and Webster.
