Principia hosted Division II Truman Bulldogs in the first match of a tri-match. The Bulldogs won 7-2. Only Principia's #1 singles and doubles player,
Paige Cooley, was able to pull out convincing wins. Paige used her forceful ground strokes, powerful serve, and solid volley for a strong win at #1 singles. In the #1 doubles match the Paige and
Gabby Kitchingman were able to hold off a come back run by their opponents and closed out their set at 8-6.
In the other doubles matches the Principia teams were not able to combat the strong serves and forceful returns by the Bulldogs.
Hallie Jones, returned to play this season at #2 doubles with
Greer Sprague. She did well in her first match back and hit some strong serves. At third doubles, the duo of
Caroline Carlson and
Amber Heady were playing together for the first time in the main line-up; they set each other up for several good closing volleys.
The singles matches highlighted the need for Principia players to become steadier in their play and to continue to develop their running ground strokes.
Greer Sprague, #3 singles, had a good run in her second set after losing the first at love. She played steady tennis and forced her opponent into errors with her deep steady ground strokes.
After defeating the Principia Panthers 7-2, the Truman Bulldogs won all 9 matches against Greenville Panthers setting up a competitive dual match between the two Panther teams.
