Panther Drop Two In Midweek Matchup

Elsah, ILL. -- Principia College hosted the Webster Gorloks in a midweek conference series. Freshman Chris Stamos earned the nod for the Panthers.  Webster started the day 20-8 and 10-3 in conference. After two strikeouts in the top of the first, Webster showed their strength and got on the board first with a solo shot. A walk and an error allowed Webster to plate another to take an early 2-0 lead. With two outs in the third, Principia committed a second error that would allow another Gorlok run. Another unearned run in the fourth and another in the fifth stretched the lead to 5-0. In the bottom of the 6th the Panthers worked to fight back in the game with a hit by pitch and error to get two base runs. Zach Grennie showed patience at the plate working a 3-0 count then launched his third home run of the season to cut the Webster lead to 6-3.  Errors plagued the Panthers in the 7th inning which started with another error that Webster capitalized on plating 3 more runs.  In his pinch hit appearance, Luke McCutcheon, battled before grounding out to second putting his first ball into play.

Webster jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in game two, but the Panthers showed fight early. Blake Lesky led off with a double, followed up by singles by Stephen Strong and Zach Grennie.  The Panthers scored two more to take a 3-2 lead. However, the lead wouldn't last long and Webster's bats showed their power. When the game wrapped up, Webster tallied 6 home runs, 16 hits and 21 runs. Sean Hannan picked up his second home run of the season in the 6th but Webster ran away with game two.
