Tavares, FL. -- The Beach Volleyball team participated in the AVCA Small College Championships in Tavares, Florida this past weekend. It was the largest collegiate tournament in the history of the sport, and Principia competed in the NCAA Division II division, along with one other Division III school. The competition was tough, but the women dug in and played the game proud and gritty. The coaches have seen so much progress in how the women are playing the game. The women have grown a ton in their understanding and execution of the collegiate game. This winter was cold and wet which made it tough for the women to be in the sand as much as years past in January and February.
The team traveled south for 7 days of training and 5 matches of competition in March which was the true start of their daily time in the sand. After that Principia hosted a 2 day tournament at the beginning of April, and then culminated this season in Tavares. This tourney pitted our women against mostly scholarship players, and the toughest matches definitely inspired the boldest play out of the Prin teams. They welcomed the challenge and put together some great matches, showing their progress as partners and in their competitive play.
