Monmouth, ILL. -- The Principia volleyball team traveled to Monmouth, Illinois for opening weekend, and came away 1-1 with a win over Lincoln Christian University and a loss to host Monmouth.
(Game One)
Look into the Match:
In the first match against LCU, the Panthers lost game one 16-25 as they they fought to get their feet under them in ball control. Principia had more passing errors in game one than in the other three games combined. As the women tightened up their movement and communication, the passes got to setter
Devon Marunde and the offense revved up, and good things happened. Principia won the next three games 25-21, 25-22, 25-22 to take the match.
Good to Know:
The Panther offense hit .178 with just under 10% error.
Sarah Ungerleider led the offense hitting .391 with 9 kills and only 1 error in 21 swings.
Jessica Bayne led in Kills with 17.
Nikki Matters served up 9 aces, with
Devon Marunde and Ungerleider adding four and three respectively.
Amanda Roberts was 100% from the service line.

(Game Two)
Look into the Match:
The Panthers grabbed a snack and moved into their back to back match against a tough Monmouth squad. Principia competed very well in game one, coming back from a 2-7 deficit to even the score at 11-11.
Nikki Matters served tough and helped build 15-11 lead, and
Devon Marunde did the same as Prin moved into a commanding 19-5 lead. However Principia squandered several game points and eventually succumbed to Monmouth 24-26. This game proved too much to come back from as the Panthers lost the next two games in a 0-3 beating by the host team.
Good to Know:
Amanda Roberts was again 100% from the service line, and was joined by
Nikki Matters,
Sarah Ungerleider, and
Mesa Goebel this match.
Principia's offense was led by
Sarah Ungerleider again, this match hitting .286, and
Jessica Bayne hit .276 leading the team in Kills with 11.
The defensive back court was working hard with four digging double digits - Roberts leading with 17, and
Jessica Bayne close behind with 14.

Principia wants YOU to come on down to Hay Field house Tuesday, September 3rd for our home opener versus Harris Stowe at 7:00 pm.
We also are hosting Lincoln Christian for a rematch Friday, September 6th at 8:00 pm, and Illinois College Saturday at 12:00 pm, and close out the week against Hannibal LaGrange at 4:00 pm.
