Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Principia Men's Soccer defeats Illinois College with strong second half performance

Jacksonville, ILL. -- Principia Men's Soccer traveled to Jacksonville, Illinois on Thursday evening to take on the Blueboys of Illinois College.  Coming off of two tightly contested home losses, the Principia Men came into the match hungry for a win.

Freshman Patrick Sherman started as an attacking midfielder for Principia and played an important role in attack as well as defense.  Other standouts on the night included E.G. Pierce (center back), David McCook (left center back and holding midfielder), George Agai (left wing), and Cole Heinbaugh (holding midfielder).  However, the match was defined by a collective effort from the entire team to defend with tenacity, giving Illinois College very few opportunities to get the ball forward.

The Keller brothers, Kaden and Kaleb, consistently threatened to score throughout the match.  Older brother, Kaden, found the first goal with a powerful header off of a long throw-in from Caleb Grow.  Kaleb, in true brotherly competitive fashion, struck nine minutes later with a stunning free kick driven into the bottom left corner from 30 yards out.  With a total tally of 24 shots (8 on goal), the Principia Men were disappointed to not find more goals in the match.  However, the team enjoyed a happy trip back to Elsah and they will begin preparations for their next match against Harris Stowe on Tuesday, September 10th at 6PM, which will be played on home turf.
