Women’s Swim Team Wraps up Regular Season with Loss at Illinois College

JACKSONVILLE, IL – The women's swimming team headed to Illinois College for their final regular season meet and came up short on the scoreboard – 65 – 116.  The women put in a strong effort and came away with 6 "bests", not exactly the total they were hoping for but the techniques, pacing, and efforts were there that will lead them to success at their final meet of the year.

The meet started out strong with the relay team of freshman Cami Abadie, junior captain Lydia Pierce, freshman Heather Savoye and junior Mallory Saylor combining for a 2:12.99 in the 200 Medley relay and 3 "best" swims.  Pierce swam a lifetime-best 50 Breast split (34.53) followed by Savoye's season-best 50 Fly split (33.59) and Saylor's unshaved-best 50 Free anchor split (32.55).

The other "bests" from the meet came from 3 different women.  Pierce swam a 59.72 100 Free which is an unshaved-best time.  Also in the 100 Free, junior Elizabeth Hull swam a 1:22.04 for an unshaved-best as well.  Senior Glynnis Harley swam a lifetime-best 400 IM time of 6:04.40.

Other highlights included three women winning their events.  Savoye won the 100 Fly in 1:22.08.  Abadie won the 200 Back in 2:19.42 and Pierce won the 100 Breast in 1:16.27.

While the results were not what were hoped for, the women were just starting their taper and are thus looking forward to much faster swimming to come.

The women will wrap up their season at the Liberal Arts Championships Wednesday, Feb 12 – Saturday, Feb 15 in their home pool.  They will host Finals on Wednesday night starting at 5p and then swimming prelims at 10a, diving prelims at roughly 1:30p and all Finals at 5:30p each of the next three days.
