Principia was host to an indoor Beach volleyball tourney in Fort Wayne, Indiana held at Empowered Sports Club. Tusculum, Bryant Stratton, Morehead, Park, Carson Newman, and Stevenson rounded out the field of seven.
Principia started the tourney with a loss against NCAA Division I Morehead State. In the second match against junior college Bryant Stratton Principia earned a 3-2 win. Team #1 Hayden Warner and Devon Marunde won handily 21-11, 21-13. Team 2 Victoria Vandiver and Sophia Hathaway played a progressive match losing game one 15-21, but coming back with a great "oomph" taking game two 21-9 and battling back and forth for the 15-11 match victory. The final victory for the Sandy Panthers came from the #3 team of Sarah Ungerleider and Mesa Goebel. Theirs had a similar feel to the 2s losing game one 17-21, and taking control winning game two 21-12 AND finished it up with a 15-8 victory for the match win.
On day two the Panthers played both Carson Newman and Tusculum, both NCAA Division II, and were overpowered by pinpoint tough serving and a great execution of finding sand and making Principia move.
Each partnership had some tough times and also experienced great growth in the deep sand. Coach Sprague shared, "The women were a pleasure to coach, and each showed some nice progress over the tournament."
