Panthers Pick Up First Conference Win

The Principia Panthers hosted the Fontbonne University Griffins in a midweek conference double header. Coming off short rest, Chris Stamos was on the mound for the Panthers in game one. The Griffins jumped out to an early lead on a two out grand slam. Fontbonne's ace dominated the Panther lineup and tallied 13 strikeouts and only gave up two hits. One by Chris Stamos and the other coming off the bat of Sean Hannan.  Stamos would settle in and throw scoreless third and fourth innings. Grayle Kendall came in in relief and had a good fifth inning. A combination of walks and defensive miscues allowed an 8 run inning for the Griffins as they took a commanding 14-0 lead.  Spencer Cobb picked up two strikeouts in his one shutout inning of relief.

Sean Hannan started on the mound in game two and was able to pitch with an early lead as the Panthers loaded the bases and scored two runs on a single by Stephen Strong and added two more as a single by Hannan cleared the bases. After a one out single by Mikey Coyne in the second, Chris Stamos and Stephen Strong had back to back doubles stretching the lead to six. Fontbonne would score one unearned run in the third and cut the lead to three scoring two more in the fourth. Principia would respond as Strong doubled in a run and would score on a wild pitch. Hannan would tally 10 strikeouts before turning the ball over to Nathan Wood who threw three scoreless innings. The Panther bats came to life in game two as the Panthers scored 13 runs on 13 hits.  Wood struck out six, two of which came in the top of the 7th as the Panthers picked up their first conference win of the season.
