Panthers Cruise past Anderson, Fall Short to DePauw
Men's Tennis visited DePauw for a tri-match, their final two matches before spring break begins. The Panthers put Anderson away early, though several courts didn't go their way later on. The top two doubles and four singles spots contributed quick wins to a 6-3 team victory.
William Johnson and
Elliott Matthiesen searched for a break to even things on court three, but the Ravens didn't let up. Matthiesen also provided an exciting singles contest despite taking a loss, going to a third-set super-tiebreak for the second weekend in a row.
The Panthers' evening match against DePauw, ranked 10
th in the Central Region, was their toughest of the season to this point.
Daniel Gomez and
Juan Segovia evened the overall score at 1-1 with a great win on court two.
Wyatt Dale and
Greg Sovie gave up a break to go down 3-4 at 1
st doubles, a lead the Tigers wouldn't give up.
Fortunately, Dale bounced back from a tough doubles outing to provide the lone bright spot in singles at number two. He won the big points in the third-set super-tiebreak against the same opponent that handed him a straight-set loss last season.
The Panthers head into spring break ready to face more quality competition in California. Next up is Whittier College at 10 am (PST) on Tuesday, March 17
