LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Principia College men's soccer team traveled to play Spalding University Golden Eagles.. It was a game with profound playoff implications for the Principia squad. A win meant a likely playoff berth, lose, and it depends on other factors. Principia played one of their better matches of the season, ending the half 0-0.
The first half was pretty even for both sides. With four shots by both teams, it was proving to be a good match. The best opportunity in the first half came on a breakaway for Liam Peschke - the shot went just wide. Then, Patrick Sherman had what would have been the goal of the match - an L behind followed by a tantalizing juke, but his shot went just wide of the left bar. However, the second half was a bit different. Spalding would score three goals. Despite the lopsided score, Principia controlled the ball for the majority of the second half. Jack Beckett had a great game, playing tenacious defense. Reginald Kihwele was instrumental in finding creative passes forward.
"Despite the scoreline, I felt like the boys played a competitive game the whole time. A few slip-ups led to the goals, but I'm proud of them for sticking with it until the final whistle. We have some things to work on but a lot of potential," stated captain EG Pierce.
