Women's Basketball drops scrimmage against SWIC

BELLEVILLE, IL - Principia College Women's Basketball kicked off their season with a hard-fought scrimmage against Southwestern Illinois College (SWIC) of Belleville, IL. The Panthers came out of the gate in the first quarter with many nerves as this was the first college action for nine of the ten players. However, SWIC Bobcats, who were on their second official scrimmage, hit just enough shots in the first half to gain control of the game with a 10 point lead at halftime, while the Panthers missed several opportunities at the free-throw line.

The second half was a better showing by the Panthers on the offensive end as they went inside with several plays at the rim and started to find their rhythm at the foul line. The biggest obstacle for the young Panthers on the offensive end was finding their stride at the three-point line, where they continued to struggle. The Bobcats went on to capture the scrimmage 78-56.

Head Coach Ramiro Dominguez said: "We are young but very talented, which showed itself several times today. We struggle just plainly putting the ball in the hole, but that is not normal for this team. We have several skillful shot makers, and days like this will be few and far between. I am very proud of their effort."

Up Next: The Panthers will play against Calvin University in Grand Rapids, MI, on Saturday, November 6th at 1:00 EST.
