Elsah IL. - It was a hot afternoon making both teams a little sluggish. Unfortunately, the weather would be another opponent the teams would have to battle.
Eureka's defense held a high line tempting the Panthers' offense to play balls over the top. As a result, the Panthers would spend the beginning of the first half getting called offsides. However, the Panthers finally caught a break when
Georgia Rather got a breakaway. Eureka's keeper would block Rather's shot just in time for
Adriana Rucks to finish off the rebound.
Adriana Rucks would draw a foul in the box for a penalty kick which
Viviane de Castro would finish to give the Panthers a 2-0 lead at the half.
The Panthers would play with more composure in the second half, making combinations to break down the Eureka defense. Principia's third goal would come from a long shot by Rather that went over Eureka's keeper. The Panthers would be granted two scoring opportunities from penalty kicks but would not be able to capitalize. Near the end of the second half, Eureka would have a few chances at goal. The Panther defense would thwart all opportunities thanks to
Olivia Scott, who ran in goal to kick out a ball,
Karen Trevor-Roberts, who blocked a shot near post in goal, and
Kaija Ufert, who headed out across that went back post.
The Panthers would end the game with the 3-0 win!
Up Next: The Panthers play Tuesday night, September 21st, at 8:00 pm at home against Blackburn College.
