St. Louis MO. - On a beautiful sunny day at the Principia School, the Principia College Thunder Chickens played against Southern Illinois University in Principia's first conference match of the season. The game ended in a Principia victory 81-0.
Principia opened the game by scoring in the first minute after they regained possession of a loose ball from a knock several phrases from the opening kick and were able to attack wide. The team was able to able to hold together against a strong attack from SIU. Principia was able to regain the ball from a penalty call when the ball carrier didn't release the ball in a ruck. The resultant penalty kick allowed Principia to set up a line out just outside SIU's 22-meter line. Despite losing the ball in a knock after the line out, Principia was able to win the ball in the subsequent scrum and score from a center attack up the middle to go up 14-0. From that point on, Principia was able to keep up the pressure on SIU throughout the game.
Highlights included strong attacks at the center, a kick and chase game, and forwards attacking at pace with support.
