ELSAH, IL – The Principia Rugby team played their final regular season conference match this past Saturday at home against Maryville University.
Maryville has been struggling to fill their roster this fall, and this was also the case this past weekend. To accommodate their low roster numbers, the game was reduced to 60 minutes and 10-a-side with Principia providing two players to help them out.
Due to these circumstances, the game was a complete mismatch and had more the feel of a scrimmage. The Thunder Chickens scored at will, totaling 25 tries and running away with a 146-10 victory.
Up Next: The Gateway conference tournament will take place next weekend (Oct 29-30) in Rolla, MO. The Thunder Chickens will play Southern Nazarene University in the semifinals at 1:00 pm on Saturday. If they win, they will play the winner of Central Missouri and Wash U for the championship on Sunday. The conference champion will qualify for NCR Nationals.
