ELSAH, IL - The Principia Women's Basketball team lost a hard fought home game to the Blackburn College Beavers on Saturday afternoon 70-56. A strong first half saw the Panthers go into halftime with a 32-27. However, their lead would disappear within the first 2 minutes of the third quarter, and the Beavers never looked back.
The Panthers came into the matchup needing to put together a full 40 minutes and fell a quarter short of getting it done. The Beavers ended the third quarter up by 3 and then just outworked the Panthers in the 4th quarter adding 11 more to their advantage. The Panthers, who have struggled to find an offensive rhythm against a zone, found themselves facing just that the entire second half.
Coach Ro commented after the game: "Blackburn is a very good team, and they are very physical. We did a great job at times - even in the second half - of stringing good plays together, but this season, we simply are not hitting shots that we expect ourselves to hit. We just have to keep working to put together a full 40 minute game."
The Panthers were led by sophomore Aaliyah Scott's 19 points and 6 rebounds. Joining her in double digits were freshmen duo Raina Bryant (11 points and 7 rebounds) and Paige Fowler (10 points and 9 rebounds).
Up Next: The Panthers will make up last Thursday's postponed home game against Eureka on Monday at 5:30 pm, before traveling to Louisville, KY on Tuesday to face Spalding.
