ST. LOUIS, MO - The Principia Softball team took on Webster University in their final doubleheader of the season on Sunday at St. Joseph's Academy. The games were originally scheduled for Saturday but were postponed due to inclement weather.
Both games ended in five inning losses by double digits, but like usual, the box score never tells the whole story. In a true mark of the massive improvement the team has made defensively this season, Principia finished their season by not committing a single error in game two of the doubleheader. Considering they made 13 errors in the second game of their first doubleheader against Webster three weeks earlier, the Panthers have come a long way.
On the offensive side, Webster's strong pitching only gave up one hit on the day to
Kelsie Huss.
Avery Cobb also reached on a sharp line drive to shortstop that got recorded as an error instead of hit. Despite the lack of baserunners, the Panthers did manage to score their fourth run of the season. in game one after drawing three straight walks followed by an RBI groundout by
Heather Savoye. Cobb also recorded 5 strikeouts on the mound in the first game, while
Victoria Columbus notched another 3 strikeouts in the game two.
