ELSAH, IL – The Principia Women's Soccer team hosted Greenville University on Saturday for their first conference home game. The team had to play their second straight game without their starting goalkeeper, Leslie Barrera, due to an injury sustained against MUW on September 8th. Barrera is hoping to return to action in the next week.
Greenville scored an early goal five minutes in as Principia struggled to contain the visiting Panthers. Things looked to turning around as the half went on with Principia's defense holding firm, but Greenville struck for two goals in final three minutes of the half to take a commanding 3-0 lead into the break.
Principia started the second half strong, threatening Greenville early, but was unable to turn the tide. Two more goals in the 77th and 88th minute wrapped up the 5-0 win for the visitors as Principia fell to 0-2 in conference play.
Up Next: The Panthers will host Eureka College at 5:45 pm on Tuesday as they look to get back on the right foot.
