JACKSONVILLE, IL – The men's and women's swim teams concluded their regular season with a dual meet at Illinois College. The teams came out on the losing side of both meets (women 71-131) and men (21-95) and had some tough swims. There were some bright spots with three new lifetime bests, one new all-time Top 10 and a couple of other bests. The meet did not go as was hoped but the team will take this as a growing moment to be ready for their final meet of the season in two weeks.
The meet started in unusual fashion as the 200 Medley relay was swum as a mixed gender relay. The relay was led by the Savoye siblings as both senior Heather and freshman Luc swam to a "best" time. Senior captain
Camille Abadie led off in the backstroke in 31.87 followed by H Savoye in a new in-season lifetime best split of 38.04. Junior captain
Kassie Christensen swam the fly length in 31.97 that led to L Savoye anchoring the relay in a season best 25.17.
In the 200 IM, Abadie swam to a win in 2:34.34. Junior
Kannon Gill swam a new lifetime best time of 2:35.41 in the 200 Free for a fourth place finish. In the 100 Back, sophomore
Avery Hanson took the team's second win with a 1:10.87 while H Savoye swim a lifetime best 1:21.99 to finish fourth. Abadie swam a 1:09.68 in the 100 IM for second place finish but it also placed her tenth all-time at Principia in the event.
After a short break, Abadie took her second win of the meet with a 2:22.02 200 Back time. H Savoye took the team's fourth win of the meet when she went 3:03.84 in the 200 Breast. Brother L Savoye matched his older sister with a win the men's 500 in his first attempt at the event with a 6:28.54.
While the teams didn't perform as well as hoped, they were coming off a tough week of practice. The team did show improvements from the week before and some of their technical skills also improved. Now the team needs to get some rest in order to show what they are really capable of.
Up Next: The teams will conclude their seasons when the host the Liberal Arts Championships starting Wednesday evening, February 8 and continuing over the next three days with prelims and finals starting a 10:00 am and 5:30 pm respectively. This is the meet the team prepares for all season and they will be ready to swim fast.
