COLUMBUS, MS – The Principia Men's Soccer team took their first trip to the campus of new conference opponent Mississippi University for Women for a matchup with the Owls on Wednesday. After a long 8-hour bus trip, the Panthers scored three goals for their second highest output of the season. Unfortunately, they also gave up three goals and came home with a draw.
Principia conceded an early penalty kick goal to MUW in the 6th minute, but then converted their own penalty kick scored by
Christian Tresoldi in the 42nd minute to head to halftime tied at 1-1. The second half was a back-and-forth affair as the Owls scored in the 54th minute to regain the lead. The Panthers responded with a beautiful passing goal from
Walter Lazo to
Effenberg Joya to
Zach Lemasters in the 66th minute. Just four minutes later, Principia struck again for the lead as
Leander Linsler headed home a free kick by
Murilo Nascimento. However, in the 80th minute, the Owls would draw even again as the game ended 3-3.
The Panthers kept a good attitude after giving away the early penalty and kept fighting the entire game to get back in the win column. They are very much still alive for a spot in the SLIAC Tournament if they can finish strong in their final three conference games.
Up Next: Principia will take a break from SLIAC play when they host undefeated Wisconsin-Platteville on Saturday at 3:00 pm for their homecoming game during Gold & Blue Weekend.
