WEBSTER GROVES, MO – The Principia Volleyball faced off against the MUW Owls and the Webster Gorloks on Saturday in a conference tri-match hosted by Webster. Despite two more losses, the Panthers reached a big milestone in their development when they won a set for the first time since October 2021.
In Principia's first match of the day against the Owls, the team was able to rally from behind and outlast MUW in the second set, 25-23. The Owls would still win the match 3-1, but the Panthers were very excited to finally break through with a set victory. The win was a full team effort, but
Meghan Mellor led the way with 7 kills in the second set and a season-high 15 kills in the match. Other standout performers vs MUW were
Dana Galinis with 10 kills and
Neha Bandrapalli with a career-high 30 assists. After the match, each player gave credit to their teammates for the resiliency displayed throughout.
Coach Davis said: "After coming close in many matches, it was so great to see the team's season-long progress finally get rewarded on the scoreboard. They have maintained focus on the mission of getting better each and every swing at practice and each and every game rep. Every mission includes many small steps forward, and this was a big one for our group. We now look forward to getting our first match win next!"
Up Next: The Panthers close out their season next Saturday with a tri-match at Blackburn starting at 12:00 pm. The third school competing is MUW, so Principia will look to build off their success vs the Owls.
