ELSAH, IL – The Principia Men's Soccer team hosted conference rival, Greenville University, on Tuesday for their first meeting since Greenville eliminated Principia in last year's SLIAC semifinals.
The game was tightly contested as both teams couldn't solve the other's goalkeeper for the first 80 minutes.
Parker Boyce almost had another beautiful free kick goal in the second half, but Greenville's Hiram Cruz made a diving save to keep the game scoreless. Soon after, Principia's
Torben Rehnert made an incredible save of his own with a quick-reaction, diving effort on a point blank shot for one of his best saves of the season.
Unfortunately for the home side, in the 82nd minute, Greenville sent a cross into the box which was headed home by Jaime Torres for the game's only goal. The 1-0 loss drops Principia's conference record to 1-3, and they will look to get back into the win column this weekend.
Up Next: The Panthers will head to Clayton High School in St. Louis on Saturday to take on Fontbonne University at 1:00 pm.
