ELSAH, IL – The Principia Volleyball team hosted Spalding University and Webster University for a home tri-match on Saturday. It was an exciting couple matches for the Panthers as they came the closest they've come all season to winning a set in a 25-23 nail biter in the second set vs Webster.
Principia's top two players on the day were freshmen
Sam Borton-Center and
Meghan Mellor. After Borton-Center had a stellar attack game against Spalding with 9 kills on 19 swings, Webster tried to neutralize her somewhat by targeting her in serve receive pattern, but she answered with an error free reception total. In total, Borton-Center finished with a team-high 17 kills on the day. Mellor had 15 kills between the two matches, hitting .417 against Spalding and .222 against Webster, while adding 2 blocks to her effort.
"Our victories continue to come in the form of solid, consistent play from our entire lineup," said Coach Davis afterwards. "It's refreshing to see the girls trusting themselves and their teammates more and more each week. I saw significant improvement in their ability to execute. It's apparent in the length of our rallies that we are battling more effectively each match. I have no doubt that our performance will continue to improve as the season rolls on with good things are heading our way."
Up Next: The Panthers travel to Eureka College for their next match on Tuesday at 7:00 pm.
