DUBUQUE, IA – The Principia Men's Basketball team traveled to Dubuque, Iowa to open their season against the Loras College Duhawks. Last season, Principia was able to steal a victory over Loras in Hay Field House, 77-76. Unfortunately for the Panthers this year, Loras proved to be far too strong as the Duhawks came away with the 103-61 win.

After falling behind 10-0, Principia got on the board with a floater by freshman Jordan Williams. Principia would go on a run and get to within 6 at 22-16. From there, Loras began to impose their will and knock down a barrage of 3-pointers. Senior Jaquan Adams was impressive for the Panthers, as he kept Principia within striking range with a number of tough takes to the basket and some free throws. Loras was not deterred and continued to increase the lead as they took a 46-26 lead at the half.

The second half was more of the same, as every Principia basket was answered by a couple of Loras buckets. Principia was unable to muster any stops against Loras, which allowed the Duhawks to stretch the lead. Principia was led in the second half by Shemarri Miles, who found his rhythm and knocked down some three pointers and free throws. In the end, Loras was able to keep the Panthers at bay, winning 103-61.

Good to Know: The Panthers were led by seniors Jaquan Adams and Shemarri Miles, who had 26 and 17 points respectively. Freshman Bobby Alford III chipped in 10 points and 5 boards in his collegiate debut.
