SEWANEE, TN – The Principia Women's Basketball team finished up the Sewanee Hoops Classic in Tennessee on Saturday facing another Georgia school, LaGrange College.
This was the Panthers first back-to-back series of the season and their fourth game in six days, so the lapses in energy were a lot to overcome against LaGrange's size and athleticism. LaGrange plays a fast-paced game, and Principia came out a little slow after their energy-draining comeback win on Friday night. Just like the night before, the Panthers fell behind by 17 by halftime but came out of the break determined to mount another comeback. Principia won the third quarter 22-20, and got to within 10 in the fourth quarter before foul trouble caught up to the Panthers. By the end, LaGrange came away with a 80-63 victory.
For the second straight game, senior
Alana Hinson scored 23 points to lead the Panthers. Sophomore transfer
Trinniti Matthews had another great game with 17 points and 12 rebounds for her first double-double as a Panther. Overall, all 15 active players played for Principia, with 6 players scoring. The newcomers have brought a lot of energy to the team as they continue to get comfortable and settle in both offensively and defensively.
Up Next: Principia's only game this coming week is another Division II exhibition contest vs UMSL in St. Louis on Monday at 5:00 pm.
