Elsah, IL – The Principia Men's Basketball team came into their game against the Fontbonne Griffins looking to exact some revenge after a tough 68-62 loss. Unfortunately for the Panthers, this game was all Griffins from the very beginning. Fontbonne raced out to a 17 point halftime lead and never looked back, ultimately winning 90-51.
From the start, Fontbonne took control of the game. They stormed out of the gates on a 19-2 run, leaving the Panthers searching for answers. Principia would make a small run of their own, cutting the lead to 23-13 on a jump shot from AJ Byrd with 6:36 remaining in the half. Fontbonne would answer with a three pointer and push the lead back to 13 and never look back. At halftime, the Griffins led 38-21.
Fontbonne would start the second half on a 17-0 run to stretch the lead to 55-21. From there, Principia would fight to try to decrease the lead, but it was to no avail. For every Panther basket, Fontbonne would respond with a bucket of their own as the Griffins defeated the Panthers 90-51.
Good to Know: The Panthers were led by Freshmen Bobby Alford III and Jordan Williams who scored 14 and 12 points respectively. Cole Harrison scored his first collegiate points for Principia, as he hit a three pointer with 3:42 remaining.
