FULTON, MO – The Principia Women's Basketball team traveled to Westminster College to take on the Blue Jays and looking to bounce back after Saturday's loss to Fontbonne. Unfortunately, the Panthers suffered a disappointing loss for their first two-game losing streak of the season.
Uncharacteristically, Principia came into the game a little flat on the offensive end as they struggled to find their offensive groove. However, after finding themselves down 10-16 at the end of the first quarter, the Panthers started to show some real grit on the defensive end and won the second quarter 16-8 to go into halftime up 26-24.
Much like the Panthers' loss on Saturday, foul trouble and a short bench came back to bite them in the second half. Principia made several great runs on both ends of the floor, but momentum was very elusive. Once they got themselves going that pesky foul trouble kept creeping back in to steal the rhythm. After a very hard-fought game, the Panthers found themselves on the losing end of a 62-51 score.
Captain
Alana Hinson led the scoring for Principia with a nice game of 16 points, 6 rebounds, and 2 steals. The other Panther in double figures was
Carolina Rojas who finished with 10 points, 4 rebounds, and 2 blocks.
Coach Ro said afterwards: "Right now, the grind of the season is something that our short roster is struggling with. As the coach, I have to find a way to give them the right mixture of rest and play to let them be successful throughout the game. We are close, and we will continue to work hard to improve and grow."
Up Next: The Panthers return home for a big rematch with Greenville on Saturday at 1:00 pm in Hay Field House. Principia lost a very close game at Greenville in early January and will be looking to split the season series by getting back in the win column.
