MONMOUTH, IL – The Principia Men's Soccer team traveled to Monmouth College on Tuesday for their last non-conference game before SLIAC play begins this weekend. After 90 hard-fought minutes, the Panthers came away victorious with a 2-0 shutout for their second win of the season.
In the 29th minute,
Zach Lemasters played a good ball to
Parker Boyce who scored his first of the season on a deflected shot from outside the box. Then in the 69th minute,
Christian Tresoldi played a beautiful through ball to
Effenberg Joya who went one on one with the keeper and scored his first ever collegiate goal to ice the game.
Joya and Boyce played with a lot of energy and helped the Panthers keep possession in critical moments.
Jimmy Woodrow was a pitbull on the right side of defense in the first half, and he was crucial in helping us keep possession in Monmouth's half of the field.
The Panthers played well as a team, and it was a nice bounce back game from the loss on Saturday. Principia showed a lot of resilience and creativity in this contest, putting 10 shots on goal compared to only 3 by Monmouth. It was a good tune-up game to get the Panthers ready for the upcoming conference season, and they will continue to work on their offensive pressure as well as forcing turnovers to create more chances.
