ELSAH, IL – The Principia Men's Soccer team hosted local rival Wash U for the Panthers' home opener on Thursday evening. The visiting Bears played an excellent game and took the win, 5-0.
The Panthers couldn't get much going against a strong Bears team, but goalkeeper
Torben Rehnert made some big saves to keep the team in the game in the first half. The Panthers' best chance came late in the fiirst half right before Wash U's second goal when
Nacho Cachaza sent a hard, low shot just wide of the net.
Principia's top player in the game was
Diego Alas as he played with a ton of heart and was active all night giving the Wash U defense trouble every time the ball came his way. The team will be working on their offensive game plan and continuing to improve their discipline and mentality as they carry on with their non-conference schedule.
Up Next: The Panthers will be playing at home the next two Saturdays, starting tomorrow vs Rockford University at 4:00 pm.
