BATESVILLE, AR – After Thursday's tough loss to MUW, the Principia Men's Basketball team had another long road trip to play the Lyon College Scots on Saturday. The Panthers came out strong and played some of their best basketball in the last couple of weeks to keep the first half very close against a very talented Scots team. However, some hot shooting from Lyon would allow them to control the second half and defeat the Panthers by the final score of 95-72.
The Panthers found their groove on offense in the first half against Lyon. Led by Jaquan Adams and Shemarri Miles, Principia was able to continually battle to stay right with the Scots. After falling behind 21-11, Shemarri Miles would hit multiple lay ups and a three pointer, while Jaquan Adams would patrol the inside and made multiple baskets to cut the lead down to three. Right before the half, Lyon hit a deep three pointer to stretch the lead to 44-38 going into the break.
Unfortunately for the Panthers, they came out flat in the second half as the Scots' lead ballooned up to 15 before Principia was able to get on the board. A three point barrage from Lyon's Trenton Bell put the game out of reach for the Panthers as they fell 95-72. Some bright spots for Principia in the second half included strong play from Bobby Alford – including a massive dunk – as well as boosts off the bench from Isaac Salas and Cole Harrison in the closing stages of the game.
Good to Know: Principia was led by Jaquan Adams (23 points), Bobby Alford (17 points), and Shemarri Miles (14 points). The Panthers sit at 3-9 in conference play with four of their final six games back at home.
Up Next: The Panthers return to Hay Field House to face Greenville University on Tuesday at 7:30 pm. In their first match up this season, Greenville defeated Principia 131-127 in an overtime thriller. Show up and show out for your Panthers if you are in the area!
