WEBSTER GROVES, MO – The Principia Women's Basketball team traveled down to St. Louis on Saturday for a date with the undefeated Webster Gorloks. The Panthers were excited to get
Carolina Rojas back in the starting lineup, but were still missing an important starter with
Trinniti Matthews dealing with an injury. Unfortunately for Principia, the dominant Gorloks had their way with the Panthers from start to finish as they improved to 13-0 in a 85-50 blowout.
The Panthers committed a season high 28 turnovers that led to several open offensive possessions for Webster. The normally stingy Principia defense has shown glimpses of brilliance since the break, but hasn't played as well as it was before the holidays. Though the Panthers were successful in getting scores when they managed to get into their set offense, the Gorloks ended up controlling the paint and the boards, which is usually a staple for Principia this year. The loss drops Principia to 7-6 as they will look to end their four game losing streak on Thursday.
Coach Ro said afterwards that he looks forward to finding the key to unlocking his team's potential in the second half of this season. "We have had some injury difficulties, but that is not an excuse for me not to be able to find the winning combination when we have such an unbelievable group of women on this team. Luckily, we have a lot of season left and we will for sure be making the most of this moment."
Up Next: The Panthers have their first home game in four weeks when they host the Westminster Blue Jays on Thursday at 5:30 pm.
