ELSAH, IL – The Principia women's soccer team cruised to a 4-0 victory at home on Thursday evening in a conference clash against the MUW Owls.
Dachelle Carter led the way with two first-half goals, extending her team lead to six on the season, while
Mirsa Boyer, the reigning SLIAC Offensive Player of the Week, provided three assists.
The Panthers struck early in the 8th minute when Boyer sent a perfectly placed pass to Carter, who broke free on a breakaway and clinically fired the ball home to put Principia up 1-0. In the 25th minute, Boyer delivered another quality cross into the box as Carter tapped in her second of the game.
In the second half, Boyer added her third assist of the day in the 73rd minute, this time setting up
Olivia Scott for her third goal of the season. In the 84th minute, after Owls goalkeeper Alex Moon remarkably saved her third penalty kick of the game,
Zayana Brown jumped on the rebound and slotted it home to sealed the victory. Panthers goalkeeper
Leslie Barrera earned her second solo clean sheet as she made two saves in the game.
With the win, Principia clinched a spot in the upcoming SLIAC Tournament, and their seed will be determined in their final three conference games. Next up, the Panthers have a quick turrnaround with a big game on Saturday hosting Spalding University at 1:00 pm. A big crowd is expected with it being Homecoming weekend on campus as well as Senior Day for both soccer teams. The women will celebrate their seven outstanding seniors with a pregame ceremony around 12:45 pm.
