BATESVILLE, AR – The Principia men's soccer team suffered their first defeat in conference play on Saturday, losing 3-1 on the road at Lyon College.
The Scots opened the scoring midway through the first half, holding a 1-0 lead at the break. Principia responded soon after halftime with
Leander Linsler heading home a perfectly placed free kick from
Christian Tresoldi to level the score at 1-1 just two minutes into the half. Despite the Panthers' efforts, Lyon regained the lead on a penalty kick in the 74th minute and added a third goal in the 83rd minute to secure the win.
The Panthers still control their own destiny and can clinch the regular season championship and home field in the playoffs with a win in their final game at Greenville. A loss or tie could result in Principia's tournament seed being anywhere from #2-4. The pivotal battle of the Panthers kicks off at 5:00 pm on Tuesday, October 29.
