BATESVILLE, AR – The Principia women's soccer team traveled to Arkansas on Saturday to battle Lyon College and came away with a big 1-0 victory.
After a scoreless first half, the Panthers' breakthrough came in the 55th minute when freshman
Makayla Kurtz capitalized on a corner kick from
Zoe Houseman, heading the ball over the keeper into the back of the net. Kurtz was instrumental on both ends of the field, helping lead a strong defensive performance that limited Lyon to just two shots on target. Goalkeeper
Christin Walls handled both chances as she secured her first solo clean sheet of the season.
The Panthers conference record now sits at 4-3 with one regular season game remaining at Greenville on Tuesday at 7:00 pm. A win vs GU would catapult Principia into the #3 seed for the tournament and earn a home playoff game, while a loss or a tie would put Principia as the #5 seed.
