LOUISVILLE, KY – The fifth-seeded Principia women's soccer team traveled to Kentucky over the weekend to take on the fourth-seeded Spalding Golden Eagles in a SLIAC quarterfinal clash.
Despite missing some key players, the Panthers put up a valiant defensive effort – a consistent theme of this Principia squad throughout conference play – as they held the high-powered Spalding offense scoreless for the first 75 minutes. The Golden Eagles were able to find the goal they needed with 15 minutes remaining to take the lead for good as the Panthers were unable to generate much offensive pressure the entire match. Senior goalkeeper
Leslie Barrera played a great final game of her career as she made 8 saves in the 1-0 defeat.
"I am incredibly proud of the finish to the season that our team put together," reflected Head Coach
Samuel Thomas after the game. "After gritting through a lot of early-season adversity, we showed plenty of resilience and unity in finishing with our highest conference ranking – and first .500 record – since 2016. Our seniors showed great leadership this season and, along with an incredible year of development from our underclassmen, set a foundation on which to build for the future!"
