RICHMOND, IN – The Panthers Baseball team traveled to Indiana on Monday to play the Earlham Quakers in a twin bill.
Charlie Reiss made the start in game one for the Panthers. The Quakers scored first on a sac fly after a bunt single and two stolen bases. Earlham then hit a two-run homer in the second to take a 3-0 lead. The Quakers looked to threaten again in the third after a lead off single but Reiss induced a ground ball double play and then a fly out to end the inning. Earlham tacked on two more runs in the fourth and two more in the fifth when Nick Dolci entered with a runner at first and one out. He finished the inning efficiently with a strike em out throw em out double play to end the threat. Ben Perrine led things off in the sixth with a single, followed by a Ryan D'Amico single, and a Kailis Mayo walk to load the bases. With one out, Braxton Ramsey worked a walk and picked up the Panthers lone RBI. Earlham scored three in the sixth on just one hit to take a ten run lead and the Panthers were unable to produce in the seventh for a 11-1 loss.
Game two started off promising for the Panthers as Josh Dement hit a lead off single followed by a Perrine walk and a D'Amico infield single to load the bases. A sac fly from Gavin Matchell and a Ramsey RBI single gave Principia an early 2-0 lead. Earlham responded in the bottom of the first scoring two runs of their own to even things up 2-2. Both teams had quick second innings, but the Quakers would score five in the third to take a 7-2 lead. Ethan Booth entered with two outs in the bottom of the third and picked up a strikeout to end the threat. The Quakers continued to pour it on in the fourth with six more runs. Logan Cadey entered with two outs in the bottom of the fourth and picked up a quick pop up to end the innings. The Panthers were unable to score the rest of the game as they lost by a final score of 14-2.
Stat of the Game: Logan Cadey struck out four in his two and a third innings of relief as the Panthers finished with nine strikeouts in the game. This tied the team's game high of 9 Ks for the fifth time this season.
Up Next: The Panthers will host MUW for a SLIAC doubleheader on Saturday starting at noon. This is the final home series of the season for the Panthers, and the team will be honoring its two seniors, Ryan D'Amico and Gavin Brustman, between the games.
