BATESVILLE, AR – The Lyon College Scots hosted the Principia Baseball team on Saturday in the two teams' first conference matchup since the Scots have made the transition to DIII.
In game one, Lyon took a 3-0 lead in the first inning after a two out, base-clearing double. In the second, Kailis Mayo walked and was balked home with two outs to score the Panthers' first run. In the third, the Scots loaded the bases with no outs. A ground ball double play scored a single run, and a two out base hit stretched the lead to four. Lyon had the bases loaded again with no outs in the fourth, and Nick Dolci helped himself out snagging a line drive and throwing to first for the double play. A perfectly placed bunt pushed across another run before an inning ending fly out. In the seventh, Skyler Stock doubled to left and scored on a Cole Christensen single up the middle. Ethan Booth took the mound in relief and threw three innings of scoreless baseball to keep the game within reach. Unfortunately, the Panthers were unable to score again, and Lyon took game one 6-2.
In game two, the Scots jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first. In the second, the Panthers kept the Lyon scoring to a minimum after a bases loaded, no out chance only produced one run. Two walks in the third scored on a two out double to make it a 4-0. Two more in the fourth and four in the sixth made it 10-0 as the Panthers were unable to create any offensive spark.
Up Next: Principia's final two games of the season are scheduled for 1:00 pm on Thursday, May 2nd at Blackburn College.
