ELSAH, IL – The Principia College women's basketball team hosted the Fontbonne University Griffins on Saturday for the final meeting in their long SLIAC rivalry. After a closer first half, the Panthers ended up winning comfortably 64-42 to move into solo first place in the conference standings at 4-0.
In a similar fashion to the Panthers and Griffins first meeting this season, the first half was lower scoring and stayed fairly close with Principia leading 26-15 at halfltime. After the Panthers doubled their lead to 22 with 2:30 remaining in the third quarter, the game would be even the rest of the way as 22 would be Principia's final margin of victory.
Ariana Williams led the way for Principia with her third double-double of the season as she scored 12 points and grabbed 10 rebounds. She also added 3 assists, 3 steals, and 2 blocks.
Lamiya Terrell and
Taylor Brown also scored in double digits for the Panthers as they finished with 12 and 11 points, respectively.
The team will road trip to Mississippi and Arkansas next week for matchups with MUW on Thursday and Lyon on Saturday.
