CARLINVILLE, IL – The Principia women's soccer team closed out their regular season with a rainy 1-0 victory on Tuesday afternoon at Blackburn College.
This was the Panthers' third 1-0 shutout win during SLIAC play and their fifth shutout in total. In all three of those wins,
Dachelle Carter scored the lone goal for Principia. The first two times, she got the game-winner late in the second half, but this time she scored in the final minute of the first half.
Sarah Smith passed the ball to Carter in the box and Carter blasted it over the goalie for her team-leading fifth goal of the season.
The Principia defense continued their strong play this season anchored by
Christin Walls in goal (3 saves on the day) and
Makayla Kurtz at center back.
Maddie Frank,
Sana Udoekong,
Myka Fenton and
Zayana Brown all contributed to the backline's stalwart effort.
Coming into this game, the Panthers had already clinched a spot in the SLIAC Tournament, but now they know where they will be playing in the first round. Principia is the #5 seed and will be heading to Westminster College to take on #4 seed Blue Jays at 6:00 PM on Saturday – right after the Prin men's playoff game ends. Principia students, faculty, and staff who would like to attend the game can get in free. Otherwise, tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for children aged 5-16.
