ELSAH, IL – The Principia women's basketball team hosted the Blackburn College Beavers on Saturday for their first conference home game of the season. After winning their first three contests to start the year, the Panthers came in looking to end a four-game losing streak. They were able to get back on track as Principia never trailed and got their first SLIAC win, 102-78.
Principia's leading scorer so far this season,
Trinniti Matthews, stayed hot in the one as she scored three of the Panthers' first four buckets and finished with a team-high 18 points.
Hannah Myers would score Principia's next five points and finish right behind Matthews with 17 points. The Panthers continued scoring at will throughout the game with their final total of 102 points being a season-high. They led by 21 at halftime and eventually by as much as 37 midway through the fourth quarter.
Taylor Brown tied a season-best of 16 points, while
Ariana Williams secured her second double-double of the season with 12 points and 12 rebounds.
Lamiya Terrell and
Genesis Santiago also finished in double figures. The Panthers racked up the defensive stats as well with 16 steals and 7 blocks.
The Principia women will travel to Washington DC in a week to take part in the Jamie Lynn Roberts DC Holiday Classic, hosted by Catholic University. They will take on Randolph-Macon at 4:00 pm ET on Monday, December 15th, followed by Roanoke at 2:00 pm ET on Tuesday, December 16th.
