WEBSTER GROVES, MO – Principia junior
Lamiya Terrell is having one of the best defensive years in program history this season. The Panthers women's basketball team lost a tough battle with conference powerhouse Webster University on Saturday, but Terrell's defensive efforts stamped her name in the conference record books.
After tying the conference and program record with 11 steals in a game last Tuesday against Greenville, Terrell matched that feat with 11 more steals on Saturday. This marks the first time in SLIAC history that a player has had double-digit steals in back-to-back games. Terrell is currently on pace to break the team record for steals in a season.
The Panthers started out the game really strong as they finished the first quarter up by four holding the high-powered Gorloks offense to only 11 points. The second quarter was a different story, however, as Webster found their game and outscored Principia 26-9 to take a 13-point lead at halftime. Unfortunately for the Panthers, they were unable to gain much ground throughout the second half and lost 73-62.
Principia's leading scorer was junior
Trinniti Matthews who finished just shy of a double-double with 17 points and 9 rebounds plus 3 blocks. The Panthers fall to 10-6 in conference play and are now tied for third in the standings with Eureka. The team will head to Westminster College on Tuesday for their second-to-last game of the regular season.
