ELSAH, IL – The Principia women's basketball team hosted Blackburn College for their final game of the regular season on Saturday and won big to clinch a home playoff game next Tuesday.
Before the game, the team honored their lone senior,
Carolina Rojas, and celebrated her four year career with the Panthers. Rojas ranks in the top 10 in program history in career steals, games started, games played, and minutes played. She has been a very valuable member of the team since her freshman year, helping spark the program's turnaround from a one-win season to three straight winning regular seasons. Rojas also excelled as a leader on and off the court as she was a team captain and frequent member of both the 4.0 club and academic all-conference team.
After the ceremony, Rojas showed off her talent in her final regular season game on Saturday as she led the team in scoring with 15 points and 3 three-pointers.
Lamiya Terrell also had a strong game with 14 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists, and 3 steals. Terrell finishes the 2024-25 campaign as the conference leader in steals with 88. She needs just six more in the conference tournament to break the program record for steals in a season. The Panthers had five more players score 7+ points in the game as they dominated Blackburn by a final score of 86-50.
The win clinches the #4 seed in the conference tournament to earn a home SLIAC tournament game for second straight season. The Panthers are set to host the #5 seed Greenville University on Tuesday evening at 7:00 pm. The game is sure to be a great battle as Principia and Greenville split their season series with each team winning at home. With a win, the Panthers would advance to the conference semifinals on Thursday held at Westminster College. Tickets for Tuesday's game are $5 for adults and $3 for children ages 5-16, while Principia College students, faculty, and staff will get in for free with a Prin ID.
