GREENVILLE, IL – The Principia College women's basketball team made history on Tuesday evening when they traveled to Greenville University looking to snap the program's 0-25 record in H.J. Long Gymnasium. The Panthers exorcised their demons by turning in a dominant performance and winning by 21 to earn the team's first ever victory at Greenville.
Principia came in having lost three straight road games to tough non-conference opponents, so the team was hungry and determined to get back to their winning ways as they resumed SLIAC play. With the vast majority of the conference schedule still left to play, this game was an opportunity to start off 2026 in the right direction.
After Greenville scored the first four points of the game, a lay up by
Taylor Brown followed by a three by
Hannah Myers gave Principia the lead which they would never relinquish. Myers and
Genesis Santiago both had great shooting games from deep scoring 21 points each with a combined 7 three-pointers.
The Panthers led 16-9 after the first quarter, and followed that up with an even stronger second quarter outscoring Greenville 25-14 to take an 18 point lead into halftime. Principia did not let up in the second half as they would extend their led as high as 31 before taking their starters out. At the final buzzer, the program's drought at Greenville was finally over with a 87-66 victory. The win also marks head coach
Ramiro Dominguez's 50th career victory at Principia College.
Hannah Myers had the best game of her Principia tenure as she scored a career-high 21 points along with 10 rebounds and 4 steals for her second double-double of the season. Genesis Sanitago's 21 points is the third time she has scored over 20 off the bench this season.
Taylor Brown had a nice all-around game with a season-best 18 points plus 4 rebounds and 5 assists.
Ariana Williams continued her quest for 1000 career points as she is now only 20 points away after scoring a season-high 16 vs Greenville. Williams also added 5 rebounds, 3 assists, and 4 steals.
Principia will try to keep the momentum rolling when they host Webster on Saturday in a rematch of last season's tournament championship game. Tip off is at 1:00 PM in Hay Field House with the Panthers looking for their first regular season win over the Gorloks in 11 years.
