Senior (2014)
Summer had another strong season last year!  She made the SLIAC 2^nd team, she claimed three SLIAC Defensive Player of the Week awards, finished #1 in the SLIAC for service aces and #2 in the SLIAC for digs per set!  Summer will be another important senior presence on the court this year.  Summer attacked last season with renewed purpose, and it showed in how few balls hit the ground without a touch.  Summer also helped to lead the Principia College Volleyball team to #1 in NCAA DIII for digs per set.

Junior (2013)
Summer returns to the Libero spot this year, and will draw on her competitive spirit to take her higher in the game. Summer is always a hard worker, and sets the bar high for her teammates as well. Her energy on the court is palpable, and we look forward to helping her hone her skills to be one of the top Liberos in SLIAC.

Sophomore (2012)
Summer Switzer is a feisty player, with a competitive fire to ignite the team. Last year, Summer learned a new position as a middle hitter while stepping into the collegiate pace of the game, and she returns this year with a whole new perspective of volleyball (year of collegiate Lacrosse added to her volleyball experience). We need Summer to be a steady presence with effective serves and accurate passing. If Summer keeps progressing on these key skills, she will be a core member of the team.

Freshman (2011)
Summer has a great competitive spirit. As Dan Sheets, her high school coach comments, "When the team could have become frustrated, Summer would keep the team inspired by never giving up and pushing on with consistent effort. She would not allow her teammates to give up." Summer will play a vital role on the team with her experience as an outside hitter and back row passer.

FUN FACTS . . .

Nickname: Sum or Bum

When did you start playing this sport and why?I started playing this sport in fourth grade because Mary Ann was starting a clinic that all my friends at the time were doing. I wanted to be with my friends as well as learn the game of volleyball.

What do love the most about playing this sport? 
I love the team bonding and how close we get. Whatever volleyball team I’m on it’s like a second family to me. I can go to them whenever I’m in need of something and they’re always there for me on or off the court
