Chris Marston

Coach Marston enters his seventh year as head coach of the Panthers and his 10th within the program.

Marston played his collegiate career at Drury University helping the team earn conference tournament appearances in 2007 and 2010, as well as a conference championship and regional appearance in 2007.  He earned the teams Cy Young award in 2008 and 2010.  He pitched for the Danville Dans in the summer of 2008 in the Central Illinois Collegiate League (now the Prospect League).  During his senior campaign, Marston set the record for most strikeouts in a single game (10) and hurled the first no hitter in Drury’s history against UMSL (University of Missouri Saint Louis).

After his playing career was over, he spent his first season as the pitching coach for the Panthers and helped guide them to a single season record 20 wins.  Under his guidance, the pitching staff lowered their ERA by over one run, lowering opponents average by forty points, knocked off 50 earned runs, and increased their strikeout/walk ratio to over 1.5.

Marston, while working as a Graduate Assistant, earned his Master’s in Sport Psychology. After completing his Masters, he spent two years at Principia High School as a co-head coach with his father, Bill Marston who had previously been at the helm of the program over 30 years.  During his time there, he had the opportunity to manage the school’s first perfect game, thrown during the 2015 District tournament.

In 2017, Marston served as the pitching coach of the Green Bay Bullfrogs of the Northwoods League.  He worked under Cincinnati Reds Hall of Famer, Chris Sabo.  The Northwoods is one of the premier summer leagues for college players looking to play professional baseball.  The Northwoods play a 70 game season over the course of 72 days to give players the feel of the minor league experience.

During Marston’s third season, the 2018 Panthers broke the single season win record previously set in 2011 tallying 22 wins.

Marston currently resides in Saint Peters, MO with his wife, Kiersten, an elementary teacher at the Principia School and his sons Caden (4) and Landon (2).
