Fall 2013 Women's Soccer Roster
Biography
Senior Year (2013)
As our senior keeper, Murilla has been the consistent presence in the back for four years. Every season she gains more confidence and comes up with big saves during games. It is fun to see the joy and enthusiasm she has for her position as she dives high and low, through the mud and snow? Nah, not snow, but her willingness to take a hit for the team is unselfish and she does it with grace. She has a light-hearted attitude and is willing to mentor the younger keepers. We are excited to see Murilla play a more leading role in the backline and to watch her soar as she completes her final season.
Junior Year (2012)
Murilla King is one of our three keepers. Now entering her third season, Murilla has gained a lot experience in the goal. From games where she barely touches the ball to matches we wish she didn’t have as much action, Murilla is increasing in her game awareness at every match. Murilla’s ability to distribute the ball has improved since her first year on the team, whether a throw, a pass or a clearance, the defense is able to use her as a support in many tough situations. We expect to hear more from Murilla as the season progresses.
Sophomore Year (2011)
If anything happened to our starting keeper, it was great to have an experienced goalie like Murilla to come into the game. Appearing in 10 games last year, she gained experience at the collegiate level. Hungry for success, she works hard and strives for perfection. Now that our starting keeper has graduated she has the opportunity to fill that role. With the possibility of three other keepers fighting for the spot she will have her work cut out for her. Nonetheless, she is very capable and we can’t wait to see how she reacts to her new responsibilities this year.
Freshman Year (2010)
For the past seven years, the women’s soccer program has been in a goalie recruiting drought. However, now all that has changed with the arrival of our newest freshman, Murilla. Coming from Northern California, Murilla played keeper for her high school and club soccer team, Novato United. With her previous keeper experience it will be helpful to have Murilla provide new insights to our other goalies and vice versa. There is certainly no need for our goalie coach, Matt Munhall, to teach her how to dive because for her it is like second nature. We expect to hear Murilla’s commanding voice out on the pitch this year.
Prep/Personal
California native, Murilla loves going to the beach and swimming in the ocean. The beach is a wonderful canvas to capture scenic pictures. As a result, Murilla has probably taken quite a few photographs because of her interest in photography. However, the picture taking doesn’t stop there, give her a car along with some good music and she will drive anywhere for more photo opportunities. She doesn’t mind the road trips.
